How to Enable Multifactor Authentication

Enabling Multifactor Authentication in BoardWorks

Updated over 9 months ago

Multi-Factor Authentication adds a secondary security check before allowing a user to access BoardWorks. This is commonly used with other applications where security is the utmost priority, i.e., Banking or Credit. Similar to those applications, BoardWorks will text a code that the person will enter to access the information each time.

Multi-factor Authentication can be set up on a single user or for the entire board - all users.

Once it has been determined that an Administrator will turn on or off Multi-Factor Authentication for a user, navigate to the user's account from Admin section.

Once in the user's account, select "Require MFA" and ensure that you have entered the user's mobile phone number.

Please ensure that the mobile number starts with the country code, ie, +1, +44 etc...

Once entered correctly, click Save.

On next login, the user will receive the following screen.

Followed by receiving the OTP code on their mobile phone via text.

If at some point later on, the user updates/changes their mobile number, the change can be made by an Admin from the user's account or by the Admin or the user themselves from the user's profile in the Profiles section.

If you would like enable MFA for all your users at once, please ensure that each user has a mobile phone number in the system and then reach out to Support and we can enable from the back-end.

Please note: If logging in from a mobile device, the Director will also be prompted to designate the device as a trusted device for Multi-factor Authentication. Designating it as such will allow the user subsequent logins without having to re-authenticate with Multi-factor Authentication.
